Brian Houston was born on 17 February 1954 in Auckland, New Zealand. His parents, Frank and Hazel were then Salvation Army officers. At age 3, his parents joined the Assemblies of God in New Zealand and began pastoring a church in Lower Hutt, near Wellington.
Brian has a brother and three sisters and they all grew up in New Zealand. Following his graduation, he proceeded to a Bible College for three years.
Career
Brain Houston moved to Sydney, Australia, and served at Sydney Christian Life Center. In 1978, he became an assistant pastor to his father. In 1980, he then proceed to start a Church on the coast and worked at a Church in Liverpool.
Moving forward, in 1983, he hired the Baulkham Hills Public School hall in Sydney to start a new church, the Hills Christian Life Centre.
In May 1997, Houston was elected the president of the Assemblies of God in Australia (now called Australian Christian Churches), a position he held till 2009.
On 10 May 1999, Brain took over from his father as the senior pastor of Sydney Christian Life Centre. In September 2018, Hillsong Church left the Australian Christian Churches to become an autonomous denomination, identifying itself more as a global and charismatic church.
Houston also serves as the executive producer for Hillsong Music Australia (HMA), the music ministry of Hillsong Church. The music ministry has over the years released chart-topping albums from Hillsong United, and Hillsong Live, which is the worship expression of Hillsong Church.
