Marlee Beth Matlin was born August 24, 1965, in Morton Grove, Illinois, United States of America. His father, Donald Matlin was an automobile dealer and his mother, Libby Matlin a homemaker. When she was 18 months old, she was consistently ill and had ensuing fevers, eventually losing hearing in her right ear and 80% of the hearing in her left ear. Matlin is the only one in her family who is deaf.
Matlin has her ancestry in Poland and Russia. She has two older brothers, Eric and Marc.

Marlee Matlin attended and graduated from John Hersey High School in Arlington Heights. Thereafter, she attended Harper College in Palatine, Illinois.

Matlin’s entry into acting was through the romantic drama film “Children of a Lesser God” in 1986, where she played the role of Sarah Norman. Matlin’s portrayal was highly commendable that she won the Academy Award for Best Actress. More so, Matlin is the first deaf performer to win an Academy Award, as well as the youngest winner in the Best Actress category.
