Akbar Oluwakemi-Idowu Gbajabiamila was born on May 6, 1979, in Los Angeles, California, United States of America. His father’s name is Mustapha Gbajabiamila and his mother’s name is Bolatito Gbajabiamila.
Akbar has six siblings, including former Green Bay Packers defensive end Kabeer Gbajabiamila. Gbajabiamila is of Nigerian descent.
Education
Abkar Gbajabiamila attended Crenshaw High School in South Los Angeles where he played for the basketball team. He started playing football during his senior year.
He got a scholarship offer from several universities but finally settled for San Diego State University where he graduated with a degree in communication and new media studies. Gbajabiamila also completed a certified entrepreneurship program at the Wharton School of Business in 2005.
Career
Abkar Gbajabiamila went undrafted in the 2003 NFL Draft and ultimately signed with the Oakland Raiders as a free agent. In 2004, he split time between defensive end and linebacker. In 2005, he battled injuries during the training camp and was subsequently released by the Raiders.
Gbajabiamila signed with the San Diego Chargers returning to the NFL in 2006. On February 6, 2007, he signed a deal worth $7.4 million with the Miami Dolphins. However, a few months later, he was released by the Dolphins.
He was also selected as one of the NFL’s first athletes into their Broadcast Boot Camp. Subsequently, he ended up as the co-host for Football Night in San Diego.
He started serving as an analyst for the Mtn Network and CBS Sports Network for two years, while also taking voice and acting classes.
In 2012, Gbajabiamila joined the NFL Network as a member of the NFL Fantasy Live cast of hosts. A year later, he became a co-host for American Ninja Warrior. He is also the co-host of Team Ninja Warrior and American Ninja Warrior Junior.
In 2021, Akbar Gbaja-Biamila joined as a permanent co-host of the CBS show, The Talk.
