David Reed Bromstad was born on August 17, 1973, in Cokato, Minnesota, United States of America. He is the youngest of four children to Diane Marlys Bromstad (Krueger) and Richard Harold David.
David is of Norwegian descent from his father’s side and of Swedish and German descent from his mother’s side. David has three older siblings Dean Richard Bromstad, Dynelle Renee Bromstad, and Dyonne Rachael Bromstad.
His interest in art and design started at a tender age. For his education, Bromstad attended Wayzata High School in Plymouth, Minnesota He then proceeded to the Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida to pursue a career as a Disney animator.

Bromstad started his career as a Disney illustrator. Thereafter, he started his own company, Bromstad Studio. Following his friend’s advice, Bromstad moved to Miami Beach where he competed in the debut season of HGTV’s Design Star, a reality show competition to pick a host for a new show on the HGTV cable network.
