Meredith has three older brothers, Steve Vieira, Jeff Vieira, and Edwin Vieira. She was raised in the Roman Catholic faith.
Education
Meredith Vieira attended the Lincoln School, a Quaker all-girls offshoot of Moses Brown School in Providence, graduating in 1971. Thereafter, she enrolled at Tufts University where she graduated with a degree in English in 1975.
Career
Meredith Vieira started her broadcasting career as a news announcer for WORC radio in Worcester, Massachusetts in 1975. Around that time she began her career in television working as a local reporter and anchor at WJAR-TV.
She first gained national recognition as a CBS reporter from 1982 to 1984. Thereafter, she became a correspondent for nationwide news-magazine shows including West 57th and 60 Minutes. From 1992 to 1993, Vieira worked as co-anchor of the CBS Morning News.
In 1994, she moved to ABC initially as a regular correspondent for the news-magazine show Turning Point and was also the host of the Lifetime Network’s show Intimate Portrait. She also served as the original moderator and co-host of ABC’s daytime talk show The View.
On September 16, 2022, Vieira became the first host of the American syndicated version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.
