Conan Christopher O’Brien was born on April 18, 1963, in Brookline, Massachusetts, United States of America. His father, Thomas Francis O’Brien, was a physician, epidemiologist, professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and his mother, Ruth O’Brien, is a retired attorney and former partner at the Boston firm Ropes & Gray.
Conan has three brothers, Luke, Justin, and Neal O’Brien and two sisters, Kate and Jane O’Brien.
For his education, O’Brien attended Brookline High School graduating as valedictorian in 1981. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from Harvard University in 1985. He was awarded an honorary Doctor of Arts degree from Dartmouth College in June 2011.
Career
After graduating from college, O’Brien moved to Los Angeles where he joined the writing staff of HBO’s “Not Necessarily the News”. He also served as a writer on the short-lived “The Wilton North Report”. In 1988, he was hired by “Saturday Night Life (SNL)”. O’Brien spent three years on SNL.
In 1991, O’Brien joined the animated sitcom “The Simpsons” as a writer and producer. He wrote some series of the show including “Marge vs the Monorail” and “Homer Goes to College”.
On September 13, 1993, “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” was premiered in New York City. However, the show was met with negative reviews from contemporary critics. Not deterred by his critics, the show slowly and steadily acquired commercial and critical success.
