Early Life: Age, Parents, Siblings & Ethnicity
Glenn Lee Beck was born on February 10, 1964 (age 60), in Everett, Washington, United States. His father’s name is William Beck and his mother’s name is Mary Clara Beck. The family moved to Mount Vernon, Washington, where they ran a bakery in the city’s centre.
Glenn has an older sister named Michelle. Beck is of German descent and was raised as a Roman Catholic.
Education
Gleen Beck attended Immaculate Conception Catholic School in Mount Vernon. Beck graduated from Sehome High School in June 1982
Career
After graduating from high school, Beck relocated to Provo, Utah, where he spent six months working at radio station KAYK. After that, he moved to Washington, D.C., where he started working for WPGC. Then, in 1983, he relocated to Corpus Christi, Texas, where he worked at KZFM, and in the middle of 1985, he moved to Louisville, Kentucky, where he served as the lead DJ for WRKA’s morning radio show. There, he had a four-hour daily show called “Captain Beck and the A-Team” that aired.
Beck left Kentucky and relocated to Phoenix, Arizona, where he worked at KOY-FM, due to a decline in the ratings for his show and a disagreement with the WRKA management. He kept zigzagging around the nation while advancing his career and reputation.
In fact, he was earning $70,000 per year by the time he was 21. Unfortunately, the money brought a change in ego, and the semi-celebrity status brought addictions. These factors, along with a string of morning shows that failed to meet ratings expectations, quickly turned him into a near-has-been in the radio business.
However, in 2000, “The Glenn Beck Program” started airing on WFLA (AM) in Tampa, Florida, giving Beck another chance. Beck managed to move his afternoon time slot from 18th to 1st in just a year, despite having a less-than-stellar history of being able to command ratings.
Premiere Radio Networks debuted “The Glenn Beck Program” on 47 stations nationwide in January 2002 as a result of the program’s ongoing success and popularity. The programme had over 6.5 million listeners, was broadcast on over 280 stations nationwide, and was ranked No. 4 in the country by 2008.
When CNN announced in January 2006 that Beck would be joining them and hosting his own weeknight show “Glenn Beck,” Beck made the switch from radio to television. He won the Marconi Radio Award for Network Syndicated Personality of the Year in 2008 while working for CNN. Beck announced his departure from CNN later in 2008 in order to join Fox News Channel, where “Glenn Beck” debuted in January 2009.
Additionally, he had his own weekly section called “At Your Beck and Call” on “The O’Reilly Factor” at Fox News.
Beck left Fox News in 2011 to start his own media company, TheBlaze TV (originally called GBTV). The Wall Street Journal estimated that in its first year of operation, the service had more than 300,000 subscribers and brought in an estimated $40 million. This service originally began as a subscription-based internet TV network. TheBlaze TV announced a new partnership with Dish Network in September 2012, saying that it would start carrying TheBlaze TV. More than 90 television providers across the country now offer it.
