Harris Kimberley Faulkner was born on October 13, 1965, in Atlanta, Georgia, United States of America. Her father, Lieutenant Colonel Bob Harris was a United States Army officer and Army Aviator and her mother, Shirley Harris was a homemaker. Harris has a sister named Annissa Buchanan. As a child, her family lived in different places including Stuttgart in West Germany.

Harris Faulkner started her journalism career with LA Weekly as a freelance business writer. She started her television career with an internship at KCOP-TV in Los Angeles. Thereafter, she moved to Greenville, North Carolina where she worked as a reporter and anchor at WNCT-TV.
