James Thomas Fallon was born on September 19, 1974, in Brooklyn, New York City, United States. His father, James Fallon served in the Vietnam War and also worked as a machine repairman for IBM in Kingston, New York, and his mother, Gloria Fallon was a housewife.

James has a sister named Gloria Fallon. He is of German, Norwegian, and Irish descent.

Education

Jimmy Fallon attended the Roman Catholic school St. mary of the Snow. He developed an interest in the late-night comedy program Saturday Night Live as a teenager.

Fallon also attended Saugerties High School where he graduated in 1992. Thereafter, he attended The College of Saint Rose in Albany, New York, where he was a computer science major before switching to communications in his senior year. However, he left college a semester earlier to pursue a comedy career.

In May 2009, Fallon returned to receive a BA in communications, awarded by Saint Rose officials. 

Career

Fallon left college in 1995 to move to Los Angeles to pursue comedy full-time. At age 21 he secured a manager and got bookings. He also joined classes with The Groundlings, an improv comedy troupe. Fallon also appeared in a number of films. He always had in mind to join Saturday Night Live but was unsuccessful after auditioning for the program in 1997.

In September 1998, Fallon debuted on Saturday Night Live as a featured player after a successful auditioning. He also had a minor role in the film “Almost Famous”. Although he planned to spend three years at SNL, he was persuaded to stay on for an additional three when given the reins to Weekend Update.

In 2004, he began to pursue a movie career. He landed his first lead role in the film “Taxi”. He often split his time between shooting film in Los Angeles and returning to New York City for SNL. In 2005, Fallon starred in the romantic comedy film “Fever Pitch”.
