RuPaul Andre Charles was born on November 17, 1960, in San Diego, California, United States. His father’s name is Irving Andrew Charles and his mother’s name is Ernestine “Toni” Charles. His parents divorced in 1967 when he was age seven.
RuPaul has three sisters Rozy, Renae, and Renetta Charles. He was raised in the Catholic faith. At age 15, RuPaul and his sister Renetta moved to study performing arts in Atlanta, Georgia.

RuPaul started his professional career in 1993 when he recorded the album, “Supermodel of the World”. The album contained the hit track “Supermodel (You Better Work)” which peaked at number 45 on the Billboard Hot 100.
