Daniel Dewan Sewell, known professionally as Danny Brown, was born on March 16, 1981, in Detroit, Michigan, United States of America. He was born to teen parents, his mother was 18 and his father was 16 when he was born.
His father, Mr Brown was a DJ who ensured that Brown listens to every song on his playlist. He was exposed early to talents Roy Ayers, LL Cool J, Esham, and A Tribe Called Quest at a younger age. In his younger days, he enjoyed the care from his grandmothers but he became a drug vendor when his parents split.
Brown started his rapping career with a hip hop group called Rese’vor Dogs; other members include Chips and Dopehead. The three rappers worked on and released an album titled “Runispokets-N-Dumpemindariva” under Ren-A-Sance Entertainment and F.B.C. Records.
Career
In 2010, Brown worked with Tony Yayo of G-Unit so that they recorded and released their collaborative effort, “Hawaiian Snow”. But this association with The G-Unit association did not yield many fruits as Brown was not signed. Brown’s first solo studio album, “The Hybrid”, was produced by a Washington, DC-based indie record label Rappers I Know.
Brown left I Know signed with On March 15, 2011, and signed with signed to Brooklyn-based indie record label Fool’s Gold Records. Brown’s pact with Fool’s Gold Records was successful. Brown released his second solo album, “XXX”, which was named the best hip hop album of the year by Spin.
Since XXX, Brown has released other albums then including “Old”, “Atrocity” “Exhibition”, “uknowhatimsayin¿”, and “Quaranta”. Brown has also been nominated and won Woodie Awards Best Video for Grown Up and Libera Awards Best Hip-Hop/Rap Album “U Know What I’m Sayin?” in 2022.
