Jason Terrance Phillips was born on May 27, 1975, in Yonkers, New York, United States of America. There is no information with regards to his parents and siblings. He took an interest in hip hop at an early age. At age 12, he began fending for himself after his parents asked him to make his own money.
Thereafter, he began freestyling for money after watching other people do it on the street corner. It was while he was freestyling that he met longtime friends SheekLouch and Styles P.

Jadakiss started his journey into the limelight at age 12, when he entered into a freestyle competition in Florida. Jadakiss performed so well that he earned the attention of the owners of Ruff Ryders. It was after forming the group “The Warlox” with Styles and Louch, which they began to sing, and later on, they met Mary J. Blige, who, like their lyrics, and handed their demo to Puff Daddy. Puff Daddy later signed the group to his label Bad Boy.
Jadakiss’s The Lox made their inaugural appearance after their pact with Puff Daddy on Main Source’s 1994 LP “Set it Off.” Subsequently, the group began writing and performing on hit songs with fellow Bad Boy artists, including Puff Daddy’s “It’s All About the Benjamins” and “I Got the Power”, Mase’s “24 Hrs. to Live”, Mariah Carey’s “Honey”, Mary J. Blige’s “Can’t Get You Off My Mind” and The Notorious B.I.G.’s “Last Day”. The group had written a tribute song for B.I.G. after his demise and the song became a hit song.
Then in 1998, “The Lox” released their debut studio album, “Money, Power & Respect”. The album was successful, peaking at number 3 on the Billboard 200 and number 1 on the US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, and went on to achieve platinum status.
Jadakiss went on a solo career in 2001 and then in August 2001, his debut album, “Kiss Tha Game Goodbye,” was released on the Ruff Ryders/Interscope label. To produce this album, Jadakiss featured guests and producers such as DJ Premier, The Alchemist, DMX, Eve, Snoop Dogg, Nas and Swizz Beatz. The album was certified gold by the RIAA and sold over 200,000 copies during its first week of release.
In 2016, The Lox released their first album after 16 years since their last album. The title was “Filthy America…It’s Beautiful” and featured guest appearances from FettyWap, Mobb Deep and Gucci Mane, and peaked at number 42 on the Billboard 200.
Sometime on March 6, 2020, Jadakiss released his fifth studio album “Ignatius”.
Jadakiss has also been involved in other business ventures. He alongside his longtime friend and business associate, Jay Jackson launched an online multimedia creative collective called, SoRaspy.
