Josh McDaniels began his coaching career as a senior graduate assistant at Michigan State University in 1999. Thereafter, he moved to Cleveland and worked as a plastics sales representative.
In 2001, McDaniels joined the Patriots as a personal assistant. Between 2002 and 2004, he served as a defensive coaching assistant for the teams, working with the defensive backs. In 2004, McDaniels became the team’s quarterbacks coach. McDaniels was then promoted to offensive coordinator of the team in 2005.
On January 11, 2009, McDaniels became the head coach of the Denver Broncos by agreeing to a four-year contract worth $8 million. However, he was fired on December 5, 2010, after the team had a poor run of results.
